Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the amount of tasks you had to do? Stressed about the endless amount of homework your teachers assigned? Pressured by the deadlines you needed to meet? Trust me, you’re definitely not alone! I know how difficult it can be to try and remember multiple to-do’s at once. Unfortunately, our brains are not the best at storing a lot of information. There is a solution to this issue, however: a planner.
Reasons to Get a Planner
1. You Can Keep Track of Your Assignments in an Organized Way
Having a planner allows you to write down any assignments or tasks you need to do on a certain day. By writing down your assignments in a planner, you’ll be able to have them in a place that you can look back at if you feel like you missed something. The weekly and monthly layouts of planners also allow you to see what assignments or tests you have throughout the week/month!
2. You Can Write Down Deadlines to Remember
Using a planner to keep track of deadlines can help you remember when certain assignments or projects are due, decreasing the chances of you accidentally forgetting. You won’t need to cram multiple deadlines inside your head! Additionally, the monthly layouts are beneficial by helping you see any due dates you have in a month. Looking at your monthly spread will give you an idea of how many days you have to complete an assignment before its deadline, allowing you to prepare accordingly.
3. You Can Prioritize Important Tasks and Minimize Distractions
Sometimes, getting started on important tasks is hard- there are times where I’ll say “One more video and then I’ll do it” but then, hours later, I’ll have watched a lot of Youtube without actually starting anything like I said I would. This is where a planner has helped me a lot! With a planner, you can see which tasks you need to complete the most (such as homework, extracurricular activities, studying) while minimizing the time you spend on potential distractions (the internet, Youtube, social media). Rather than go through the day without a clear plan, you’ll have a list of important tasks that will help you see how you should spend your time.
4. You’ll Reduce Stress
When you have all of your work and deadlines in an organized space, you’ll feel less pressured since you don’t need to constantly remember all the different things you have to do in your mind. You’ll be more relaxed and able to think of new ideas instead of repeatedly trying to think of your mental to-do list.
5. You Can Get Creative With It!
Personally, sitting down in a quiet area and decorating my planner/journal is very therapeutic for me. It can be a great stress-reliever! You can color and decorate your planner any way you want, whether it be with stickers, markers, post-its, or other stationery. There are no rules when it comes to how you want your planner to look. You can keep it simple or create detailed layouts, like the ones here on Pinterest.
Where Can I get a Planner?
Planners can pretty much be found at any store that sells stationery/supplies, such as Staples or CVS. There are also lots of planners on online stores like Amazon and Etsy. You can also make your own with rulers and markers, but pre-made planners are great if you don’t want to write down every single date.
Ultimately, a planner can help you be more productive, organized, and focused! Keeping a planner has definitely benefited me throughout the school year and I encourage you to try it out!
Of course, everyone is different and if you find that keeping a planner doesn’t work for you, don’t feel pressured to maintain it. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide what fits your needs and personality the best.
